Five05 – New Outdoors Shop in Sydney

Published by under General

While I was visiting Sydney over the Christmas Holidays I came across a great new outdoors shop called Five05: Best Value Outdoors.  It is in the heart of the city, on Kent Street and has a huge stock of camping, hiking and outdoors clothes, shoes and equipment.  It has an ice room – so if you are planning a trip to the Himalayas and know you will be in freezing conditions you can try on a jacket, pants and beanie step into the ice room and find out if the jacket will really keep you warm or not!  Better to find out how warm the jacket is while you are in sunny Sydney than to wait until you have trekked all the way to base camp…..You can find Five05 on the web  http://www.five05.com.au/ or pop into the shop at 505 Kent Street Sydney.

Creating a Photo Album

Published by under General

I have researched many websites to find the perfect way to print digital photos in a photo album.  So far I have made 2 photo albums and everyone who has a look at them wants to know which company we made it with – as the quality is so good.   www.momento.com.au is the site, currently only delivers within Australia.

What you get is more of a hard cover bound professional book rather than a traditional photo album.  The difference is that it is your smiling face on the cover!  You download the free software and create your own album, using as many photos and pages as you want.  You can add in backgrounds, text and there are many frames to choose from to make your album more creative.  Email the file off (and spend a bit of money) and you will receive a beautiful, bound, photo book to keep forever!

I am currently working on my 2006 book, where every page has a photo of Ben…..

Check out the site, I figure if you are going to take thousands of digital photos, what is the point of having them on your computer only, people appreciate the photos so much more if they are in a book format.

First Steps

Published by under General

Ben’s 15 month old brain has finally clicked into gear and he has worked out how to walk!!!  His record is 10 steps in a row and he seems to be pretty proud of himself.   Every-time I try to capture him walking on video he refuses to perform, hopefully I will get lucky in the next few days.

Bitten by an angry ant…..

Published by under General

Ben and I were gardening last week, pottering with the compost to try and get rid of a few of the creepy crawlies in it and weeding the garden (well I was, he was picking up dirt and sprinkling it on the plants).  I was absorbed in turning the compost when I heard a cry behind me and Ben was rubbing his body like he had being bitten by something.  I checked him over and he was covered in ants, that I quickly wiped off.  Ben was still uncomfortable so we had an emergency bath.  He had a few red blotches on him which must have been bites from something (not sure if ants bite???).   The experience has not deterred him from playing with the soil  he has been getting dirty pretty much every day this week.

Aquarium Visit

Published by under General

I didn’t realise how much fun an aquarium can be for a baby, Ben is 14 months old now and he had his first visit to an aquarium yesterday and he loved it!!!  He was able to get up close to all the displays and he could not stop pointing to every fish he saw.   He especially loved the glass tunnel where we could walk beneath the swimming sharks, sting rays and fish.   Aquariums are definitely a great outing for any aged baby or toddler.

The Skill of Fork Holding

Published by under General

I never thought how hard it is for a baby to learn how to use a fork.  There are so many processes involved.  They need to be able to hold the fork, have eye-hand coordination to get the fork to the food they want; they need strength to push the fork into the food and then coordination to get the folk into their mouth without stabbing their eye.  Well it seems that after a few months of practice Ben is half way there and sometimes gets some food on his fork which he is very excited to eat.  It works well for me at the moment as food (such as carrot) that Ben would normally not want to eat, if he manages to get it on his fork he is so excited that he will eat whatever he  got!!!
